New to AI agents? Learn the difference between using AI and employing it, pick your track (business or income) and hire your first agent safely.

New to AI agents? Good. By this weekend you can have one working for you.

You don't need to code, and you don't need to buy anything today.

You need about an hour over the next week, one boring task you'd like to stop doing, and some healthy skepticism.

What this track covers

By the end of these three guides you'll be able to:

  1. Explain what an AI agent is and how it differs from a chatbot or an automation.
  2. Build a simple agent using an AI assistant you may already have, with no code required.
  3. Choose the right assistant for each kind of work without paying for five subscriptions.

Step 1 alone lets you spot most of the hype.

The path (read in order)

The plain-English foundation: what agents are, when you need one, and when a simple automation works better.

A hands-on build: write instructions, add reference files, test it and (optionally) put it on a schedule.

A practical comparison by task, not by benchmark scores, so you pick based on how you work.

Your first agent: 7 ideas you can build tonight

Each one is beginner-friendly (●), needs no code, and works with an AI assistant you may already pay for.

  • Morning briefing: calendar, weather and the three emails that need you, in one message. → Build it
  • Subscription sleuth: find every recurring charge hiding in your receipts (read-only access). → Build it
  • "Ask the handbook" assistant: answers questions from your own documents and cites the page. → Build it
  • Meal planner plus grocery list: a week of dinners in two minutes. → Build it
  • Review-reply drafter: for business owners, every review answered in your voice. → See it
  • The checklist vault: turn something you know well into a sellable mini-guide. → See it
  • Niche news digest: reads your favorite sources and sends you the five things that matter. → See it

The checklist vault is your first taste of agent-made income.

Run the news digest for yourself first; it's how most newsletters start.

Pick your track: business or autonomous income

Rules every AI employee needs (worth taping to your monitor)

  • Drafts before sends. Let the agent prepare things and you approve them.
  • Read-only before write access. Don't let an agent change or delete anything until it has earned that trust.
  • Short tasks beat long ones. Agents get less reliable on longer tasks. Break work into small, checkable pieces.
  • Never paste passwords, bank logins or other people's private data into a tool you haven't vetted.
  • Be skeptical of anyone promising income. Agents are tools, not a paycheck.
