Autonomous Income

Income streams AI agents can mostly run, with real costs, failure rates and the human work that remains. No passive-income promises.

Stop using AI. Start employing it. Your agents do the work, you approve it, and you own the money.

This track is for individuals who want AI agents doing the day-to-day work of an income stream: finding topics, researching, writing, designing, publishing, listing, prospecting and reporting.

You stay in charge of the few decisions that matter most.

We mean it when we say autonomous. With today's tools you can wire up agents that work on a schedule without you prompting them: one that finds what your niche is asking about, one that drafts the answer, one that checks the draft against your rules, and one that publishes or queues it and reports back.

Your job is no longer doing the work. It's reviewing the work in batches, fixing the system when it breaks, and deciding what to build next.

What we won't do is pretend it runs itself. Agents still make confident mistakes, and platforms, search engines and regulators all penalize low-value automated output.

The builds here are designed for light, scheduled human oversight: a short review queue, hard rules about money, and a weekly check-in.

They aren't designed for "set and forget."

No income claims. Most new income streams earn little or nothing at first, with or without AI, and many never earn back their costs. Nothing in this track promises or implies any particular result. Earnings disclaimer.

Income models agents can mostly run: 8 streams (pick one, ignore the rest for 30 days)

What still needs a human: how every build in this track works

  1. Agents do the production. Research, drafting, design, formatting, publishing and outreach prep run as scheduled workflows.
  2. A checker reviews every output before you see it. A second agent scores each piece against your written rules and rejects the weak ones.
  3. You approve in batches. You review a queue on a schedule instead of doing the work. Each system starts at "agent drafts, human approves," and you widen its autonomy only after it earns it.
  4. Humans own money, promises and accounts. Prices, refunds, payouts, contracts and platform logins stay with you.
  5. Kill switches and a ledger. Every build has a spending cap, an off switch and a weekly cost-versus-revenue log, so you know when to stop.

Also useful for this track

Red flags when someone sells you "AI passive income"

  • "Passive," "guaranteed" or "done-for-you" income
  • Income screenshots in place of documented typical results
  • "Push-button" sites, channels or stores that publish without anyone reviewing them
  • Claimed partnerships with big brands
  • Pressure to buy today, or limits on what you can say in reviews
  • No written disclosure document (in the U.S., sellers of certain business opportunities must give buyers one under the FTC's Business Opportunity Rule)

The FTC has sued several "AI-powered passive income" schemes, including Click Profit, whose operators ended up with permanent bans from the industry (FTC).

Building your own agent-run system is a different thing from buying a promise.

This track is about building your own.

Coming next in this track (planned, not yet published)

  • The checker agent: writing rubrics that catch bad output before you see it
  • Unit economics for agent-run streams: cost per asset, break-even and kill criteria
  • Moving a workflow from no-code to a coding agent when it outgrows the platform

Agents that earn on their own

Hire a team of AI agents, give them an income stream to operate, and have them report to you.

Today an agent team can find the topics, do the research, draft, design, check its own work against your rules, publish on a schedule and send you a weekly report. Your job is the one agents can't do yet: approving the queue and making every call about money, accounts and promises. Every stack below is built so your regular check-in is a review of the queue, not a day of production. That's a design goal, not a promise, and the first month always takes more of your time.

How far autonomy goes today: the autonomy dial (from The Autonomous Income Stack)

  • Level 2, batch approve: agents produce and queue a whole batch, and you approve it in one sitting.
  • Level 3, exception only: agents publish anything that passes the checker and hold anything flagged for you.
  • Never fully autonomous for money, legal claims, accounts or complaints.

Most content workflows can reasonably reach Level 2 or 3. Anything that touches money stays with you.

Where it breaks (read this before you build):3 items
  • Agents still struggle with long, open-ended work.
  • In Anthropic's Project Vend, an agent left to run a small shop sold items below cost and was talked into discounts.
  • Google, YouTube and marketplaces penalize low-value mass output.

That's why every stack runs short, checkable jobs with a checker agent in between. What agents still can't do โ†’
